Licensing Terms

All articles published in the Journal of Law and Criminology are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

This license allows readers, researchers, legal scholars, criminologists, practitioners, educators, institutions, policymakers, and the public to read, download, copy, print, share, distribute, translate, adapt, remix, transform, and build upon published articles in any medium or format, including for commercial purposes, provided that the applicable licensing conditions are fulfilled.

Under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, users are required to:

  1. Give appropriate credit to the original author or authors;
  2. Cite the Journal of Law and Criminology as the original source of publication;
  3. Include the article title, publication details, and Digital Object Identifier when available;
  4. Provide a reference or link to the CC BY-SA 4.0 license whenever possible;
  5. Clearly indicate whether changes, translations, adaptations, or other modifications have been made; and
  6. Distribute any adapted or derivative work under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license.

The ShareAlike requirement means that any work created by translating, adapting, remixing, transforming, or building upon an article published in this journal must be distributed under the same license. This requirement ensures that derivative works remain openly accessible and reusable under equivalent licensing conditions.

Users may not impose additional legal restrictions, technological protection measures, subscription barriers, payment restrictions, or reuse limitations that prevent others from exercising the rights granted under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.

The license does not require users to obtain separate permission for uses permitted under its terms. However, users must obtain permission for third-party materials that are not covered by the article’s Creative Commons license, unless their use is otherwise permitted by applicable law.

The use of the CC BY-SA 4.0 license reflects the journal’s commitment to open-access publishing, legal scholarship, criminological research, academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the broad dissemination of research findings at national and international levels.

Authors retain the copyright to their published articles. By publishing in the Journal of Law and Criminology, authors grant the journal the right of first publication and authorize the journal and PT Edukola Media Publisher to publish, preserve, index, distribute, and make their articles openly accessible under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.
